Senior Honors Night 2026
The class of 2026 Senior Honors Night will be held on Thursday, May 28, 2026 at 6:30 in the BHS High School Gym
General Information about Senior Honors Night
Who is invited? Students are invited to attend if they will graduate with honors (3.0 or above as of 1st Semester grades senior year). These students will be walking across the stage at Senior Honors Night. Students are also invited and will be recognized if they have been awarded a university or local scholarship and have informed the school. Additionally, students are invited to attend and are recognized if they get a departmental award (ex., Outstanding Achievement in Mathematics). Bedford does not have a Valedictorian or Salutatorian. This is a voluntary ceremony.
Please complete a scholarship reporting form. List the scholarship awards that you have been offered or confirmed receipt of. Please state where it was from, and the amount of the award. You can use this form as many times as you need. In order for you to receive a certificate for that Scholarship Award (certificates will be distributed on Senior Honors Night May 28th). You must notify us of the scholarship award in order to get the certificate. Any questions email Mrs. Etts lea.etts@mybedford.us. The deadline to submit this form is May 19, 2025. Thank you!!!! If you need a transcript to be sent to a college officially, then you must request that it be sent through Parchment. This account you set up, we discussed the process in the senior presentation/meeting when seniors attended during English classes in the media center in the fall with the BHS Counselors. If you did not make an account at that time and still need to set one up the link is below. You must have a Parchment Account also to have your Final Transcripts sent to the college you will be attending too. More information will be shared on how to do that.
NOTE: If you need a printed copy of your SAT scores, please note them in the box labeled on the form. You have access to your college board account to look them up but if you need a printed copy, we will have that printed for you in the counseling office.

Community College Guarantee
Beginning Fall 2024, students from the Class of 2023 and beyond may be eligible for the Community College Guarantee, which includes:
- In-district tuition, contact hours, and mandatory fees.
- An additional $1,000 Michigan Achievement Bonus award for Pell-eligible students, which can be used toward additional college costs.

Students who graduate from high school in Michigan with a diploma or certificate of completion or achieved a high school equivalency certificate in 2023 or after will be eligible for more financial aid from the State of Michigan:

- Up to $2,750 if they attend a Michigan community college, per year, up to three years
- Up to $4,000 if they attend a Michigan private college or university, per year, up to five years
- Up to $5,500 if they attend a Michigan public university or are enrolled in a baccalaureate degree program at a Michigan community college, per year, up to five years

American Legion Skilled Trades Scholarship
2-year $1,000 scholarship
Deadline: April 3, 2026
The American Legion Skilled Trades Scholarship aims to provide annual scholarships to deserving individuals – aged 17-21 years old – who are pursuing a construction/building, automotive, advanced manufacturing, or energy career either in a post-high school trades training/apprenticeship or earning a 2-year college degree in the any of areas listed above where the student would be certified at the state or federal level.
Copies of this application are available in the counseling office.

The University of Michigan Club of Greater Detroit Funds Scholarship
Deadline: The entire online application must be completed and submitted no later than 5:00 pm on Friday, February 13, 2026.

For Incoming Freshman to the University of Michigan. The University of Michigan Club of Greater Detroit funds scholarships each year for both the general student body as well as for students assisting various varsity sports as managers of the team. Several of these scholarships are endowed. In addition to the scholarships that we sponsor, at times we have been asked by the University to help a student who needed financial assistance to continue their education. The University of Michigan Club of Greater Detroit has always tried to meet each and every request from the University. All profits from our events each year, plus a special scholarship solicitation, are allocated to the Club Scholarship fund.

Ohio Marguerite Women's Scholarship

P.E.O. is an international women’s philanthropic educational organization. The local P.E.O. chapter offers the Ohio Marguerite Women's Scholarship. This scholarship is available to local young women of the 2026 graduating class from high schools in the attendance area of our members. P.E.O. Chapter I is looking for a scholarship recipient with the following qualifications:
- is diligent in her pursuit of a college education
- realizes the importance of her grades, but does not restrict herself to a single-minded focus on academics; maintains a minimum 3.0 grade point average
- is interested in growth and learning beyond the confines of the classroom
- contributes her talents for the goodwill and benefit of others

MHSAA Scholar-Athlete Award
For 37 years, the MHSAA and Farm Bureau Insurance have honored the best student-athletes in Michigan. Again, this year they will award 32 students with $2,000 scholarships based on achievement and leadership in athletics and activities, as well as responses to short-answer and essay questions. In many ways, this is the most prestigious honor of the MHSAA annual awards.
WHO IS ELIGIBLE TO APPLY? Seniors with an unrounded 3.50 or better GPA who have earned a varsity letter in an MHSAA-sponsored sport are eligible to apply.
DEADLINE:The deadline is December 5 at 4:00 p.m. All parts of the application must be completed at this time.
ONLINE APPLICATION: Students will fill out the entire application online, which includes applicant background info, short-answer questions, and essays. Judges will also be reviewing and scoring applications online.
Schools are limited to the number of students who will be considered for the award. Class A schools can nominate 6 boys and 6 girls, Class B can nominate 4 boys and 4 girls, Class C can nominate 3 boys and 3 girls and Class D can nominate 2 boys and 2 girls.
Here is what you need to do if you meet the eligibility criteria to apply.
- Students need to go to mhsaa.com/scholarship to start the application process.
- Once there, students will create an account.
- Finally, students will need to enter the Access Code provided to by the MHSAA. To get the access code, you must email Mr. Larry Nocella, Athletic Director to get this (do not wait until right before the deadline to request it, think ahead and email him in advance to get it). We recommend emailing him first and then start the application once you have the access code.
Don't Wait Until the Last Minute
- There are multiple parts to the application, so don't get caught procrastinating.
- Make contact with the two people who will write your letters of recommendation, and give them plenty of time to submit a great letter on your behalf.
- Write, edit, and re-write your essay on the importance of sportsmanship in educational athletics. 500-words are the maximum for this essay.
Students can start to fill out the different parts of the application. If they leave the application, they will pick up where they left off when they return. Students also need two letters of recommendation. Students can upload PDFs or Word docs themselves, or they can use the system to have recommenders upload recommendations themselves. The deadline is Dec. 5, at 4:00 p.m.

Recreational Boating Industries Educational Foundation
Traditional Education: University, College and Trade School Scholarships
Deadline: Applications for Traditional Education are due May 1st and awarded later in the summer.
What is RBIEF? The Recreational Boating Industries Educational Foundation (RBIEF) fosters opportunities for training and education that benefit Michigan’s marine industry. The University, College and Trade School Scholarship is one method employed to achieve this mission. Traditional education scholarship awards are made to Michigan resident students who are enrolled or enrolling in higher education or trade school with the intent to pursue a career in the marine industry. The T3OU Competitive Cheer Excellence Scholarship provides a one-time $1,000 award to support a varsity cheerleader’s post-secondary education. These funds are intended to assist with tuition, fees, or educational expenses at an accredited college, university, or trade school. Due May 10th.

Provided by the Members, Staff and Friends of the Michigan Education Association.
Amount: The amount and number of scholarships offered each year shall be determined by the trustees of the MEA Scholarship Fund. Such scholarships may be offered on a renewal basis limited to four times in a five-year period.

Eligibility Criteria
- Dependent of MEA member or MEA-Retired member in good standing.
- Graduate of a Michigan public high school or private high school that has an MEA bargaining unit. (Diploma must be received in the year of application.)
- Will attend or is currently an undergraduate student of a Michigan public community/junior college, four-year degree-granting institution, or vocational training institution that grants a degree, certification or license. Those attending the following private institutions ONLY are also eligible: University of Detroit–Mercy; Adrian College; Finlandia University; and Albion College. (The aforementioned private institutions are existing local MEA affiliates.)
- Note: Children of MEA officers, fund trustees, and MEA staff are not eligible.
(A child of an MEA, MESSA or MEA-FS staff person is eligible if the other parent is an MEA member in good standing). - The scholarship will not be awarded for the purpose of working on a post-baccalaureate degree.
- Beginning in 2022-2023, MEA will offer an additional scholarship meant to encourage and support the continued education of members of the BIPOC (African American/Black, American Indian/Alaska Native, Asian/Pacific Islander or Hispanic/Latinx) community to further the belief that a diverse society enriches all individuals. Applicants for the BIPC Scholarship must identify as a member of a defined BIPOC group as listed above.

Community Foundation of Monroe County
This organization awards over 120 scholarships each year to Monroe County residents. Whether you’re heading to college, pursuing a technical career, or furthering your education as an adult, there’s a scholarship for you. The application season is open, and the deadline to apply for the 2026-2027 academic year is February 21, 2026.

Myrl W. Patton Scholarship
Mryl W. Patton Scholarship for Mathematics and Athletic Excellence Scholarship

This scholarship was established by friends and family to honor the memory of Myrl (Mick) W. Patton. He was a long-time teacher, coach, and student supporter at Bedford High School. This $1,000 non-renewable scholarship will be awarded to a graduating Bedford High School senior of the class of 2026 who has demonstrated excellence in mathematics and athletics. The counseling dept will add your transcript to the scholarship application for you. No need to request it.
Eligibility:
- Applicants must have attended Bedford High School for at least two years.
- Applicants must be graduating seniors from Bedford High School with a minimum grade point average of 3.2.
- Applicants must have demonstrated athletic excellence for at least 2 years in a high school sport.
- Applicants must have been accepted into a community college/junior college/four-year degree-granting institution or a vocational institution.
- Math courses taken in high school and grades will be reviewed.
- Please complete the application google form and submit an essay along with the application. Please use a google doc when creating the essay. You must make sure you click the share with anyone that has the link to view.
- Students must use their Bedford High School Email account to apply
- The scholarship check will be written to the college and the student who won the award.

Monroe Road Elementary
This scholarship was established to honor the memory of Karen Lockwood and Valerie Mazza, two dedicated Monroe Road teachers from August 2001 – July 2007. Karen Lockwood was a 1st grade teacher and Valerie Mazza was the Reading Specialist. A $500.00 non-renewable scholarship will be awarded to two graduating Bedford High School students and former Monroe Road Elementary school students who, like Karen and Valerie, demonstrate a passion and commitment to reading, writing and life-long learning. The Scholarship Committee of the Lion's Club of Bedford Charities, Inc. uses the information you provide on the application to rank candidates for scholarship consideration. 1. Applicants must be a Bedford Township or school district resident and a Bedford High School Senior. All children and/or grandchildren of a Bedford Lion's Club member living in the Bedford School District or Bedford Township are eligible.
2. Applicants must be a graduating senior planning on attending an accredited educational institution during the next school year.
3. In order to be considered, applicants may not hold a full tuition grant from any other source.
4. Scholarship awards to successful recipients will be paid only upon presentation of a paid tuition receipt verifying enrollment.
5. All materials submitted by applicants will become the property of the Lion's Club of Bedford Charities, Inc.
6. Applicants MUST include a “Senior Picture" suitable for use in publications of award winners.
7. High School transcripts and SAT/ACT score sheets are required- Transcripts will be added with SAT scores by the counseling Dept. The counseling department will add your transcript with test scores to your application.

DESCRIPTION: The Monroe Thrift Shop Association offers the opporturuty to apply for a one -time only scholarship to all graduating seruors of Monroe County High Schools and Monroe County home-schooled graduating seniors. The objective of this scholarship is to help provide post-secondary training for a young man or young woman who shows promise in terms of general aptitudes and personal qualities.
CRITERIA:

3. The student must show financial need. Such need will be assumed to exist if, without the scholarship, a student taking advanced training would be a serious strain upon the family or cause a student the need to engage in an excessive amount of self-support work.
4. If a recipient should receive a fu]I tuition scholarship to a college, the recipient must forego this scholarship.
5. The student must be accepted for admission in an institution offering acceptable advanced training in the field in which the applicant is interested.
6. The applicant must register as a full-time student.
SCHOLARSHIP AWARD: This scholarship, in the amount of$1,000, must be used toward semester fees, tuition and/or books for the 2026-2027 school -year in any institution offering acceptable advanced training.

The Bedford Junior High School PTO Scholarship is available to two graduating Bedford High School

PTO is a parent, teacher and student association that gives numerous volunteer hours to our students to
better their education and experience while in junior high school. This scholarship recognizes volunteer

Arthur W. Maschke Memorial Scholarship
Arthur W. Maschke dedicated over 40 years of his life to Education and to Bedford Public Schools, serving as a teacher, football coach, athletic director, principal, and ultimately as director of personnel and employee relations. His legacy is one of leadership, fairness, and unwavering support for students and educators alike.
He retired in 1982 after 13 years as Bedford’s chief labor negotiator and personnel director, where he oversaw hiring and championed the rights and well-being of teachers. Mr. Maschke served as principal of Bedford High School for 12 years, following his tenure as head football coach. He inspired his players to remember to strive reach their full potential.
A Detroit native, Mr. Maschke earned his bachelor’s degree in education from Eastern Michigan University, where he also played football. He went on to earn a master’s degree from the University of Michigan and pursued further studies at Michigan State University.
His service extended beyond the classroom. During World War II, Mr. Maschke joined the U.S. Navy, completing an accelerated officer training program at Columbia University and serving as a PT boat officer in the Pacific Theater. He rose to the rank of lieutenant junior grade and was awarded a Purple Heart for his service.
This memorial scholarship honors the values Mr. Maschke embodied: dedication to education, integrity in leadership, and a deep sense of service to both community and country. It will support students who reflect these same values and strive to make a meaningful impact in the world.

Through his teaching, coaching, and mentoring, Mr. Earl impacted countless lives throughout his 25 years at Bedford High School. This scholarship was established to honor the memory of Vanessa Rae Pirrone, a Bedford High School student-athlete who passed away during her junior year in a car accident.This non-renewable scholarship will be awarded to a graduating Bedford softball player, who, like Vanessa, is a well-rounded, athletically talented young lady, who demonstrates passion for what she loves in life.

The Ohio-Michigan Association of Career Colleges and Schools (OMACCS) is offering our 2026 LEADS! Scholarship program for Ohio & Michigan high school seniors graduating by Spring 2026! This year we are offering 147 scholarships at 16 Ohio and Michigan career colleges, totaling over $255,000, with FULL and PARTIAL scholarships available!
The DEADLINE to apply is April 17, 2026, and please review the attached material to determine eligibility requirements, application guidelines and eligible colleges & institutions and programs & courses! Refer to the Booklet for ALL requirements and eligibility criteria!

Ryan Wolniewicz Boys Golf Scholarship
This scholarship has been established in the memory of Ryan Wolniewicz who passed away on January 23, 2004. Ryan was killed in an automobile accident at the age of 16. Each time we award this scholarship to a male Bedford Golfer, we will remember the passion Ryan had for golf, the joy he had for living and the special young man he was. Ryan’s memory will be honored by awarding this scholarship to young men who exemplify Ryan’s dedication to golf, his competitive nature, his faith in Christ and his loving spirit.

Established by the Holey family with the Bedford High School Alumni Association, the scholarship is given in memory of brothers Bryan and Bruce Holey who graduated in 1969 and 1970.
The scholarship will be awarded to a Bedford High School graduating senior who has demonstrated academic excellence, good citizenship and is enrolled in an institution of higher learning. (Preference may be given to students enrolled at the University of Michigan where Bryan studied.) The scholarship will be a one-time award per student and will not be renewable. To be eligible you must be:

IMPORTANT: Applicants are to refrain from including their names or any other personal information that may identify them in the essay.
Completed applications and all supporting documents shall be submitted in an envelope ONLY labeled “TSC Vision Scholarship” and turned in to Mrs. Tracy Glover, in the choir room, by 2:45 pm on Thursday, May 12, 2026. Documents are to be held in confidence by Mrs. Tracy Glover until the deadlines passes, at which time they will be turned over to the TSC President or appointed representative (“Facilitator”). Facilitator will review entries to verify that all required documents have been included in each submission. Incomplete applications will be disqualified.

Rosa Parks Scholarship
The Rosa Parks Scholarship Foundation was established in 1980 to honor civil rights legend and longtime Michigander, Rosa L. Parks, and her historic stand against racial prejudice in the 1955-56 Montgomery Bus Boycott. The foundation awards non-renewable scholarships to Michigan high school seniors who believe in Mrs. Parks’ lifelong commitment to social justice and community service while maintaining a strong academic record and demonstrating financial need.

STUDENT AND APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS:
1. Graduate by spring 2026 with plans to enroll full-time in a higher education program in the fall of 2026.

3. Complete the application form, including a short, 200-300 word essay on this topic: "Segregation was the defining social issue when Rosa Parks took her historic stand. Describe a social issue that you think should be addressed today. How will YOU use the principles of Rosa Parks to address it?
4. Describe financial need.
5. Document honors received and community service.
6. Provide an official copy of your high school transcript.
7. Provide two letters of recommendation (at least one should come from a school representative. The other can be from a community or civic representative or member of the clergy.)

The Sara Scholarship
The completed Sara Scholarship application and all supporting documents (see application checklist above) must be put in the same envelope and postmarked on or before April 30, 2026.
The Sara Scholarship application for 2026 is open. The 2026 application deadline is April 30, 2026. A minimum of twelve (12) $2500 scholarships will be awarded in 2026 to female high school seniors who have some involvement with the sport of golf. (Ex. playing golf as a hobby or as part of a team, working at a golf course, as a caddy or in a pro shop, and any other direct, active engagement with golf)
ELIGIBILITY
To be eligible for the Sara Scholarship, applicants must:

Be high school seniors with the intention to graduate at the end of the school year

Meet entrance requirements and plan to enroll at an accredited college or university in the United States

Have a cumulative minimum unweighted GPA (grade point average) of 3.3 on a 4.0 scale

Demonstrate excellent character and active involvement with the sport of golf. Skill in playing golf is not a criterion

In order to qualify for the Sara Scholarship, you must first file a Free Application For Student Aid (FAFSA) with the U.S. Department of Education to determine your eligibility for student aid. It is extremely important to do this as soon as possible, as the application takes time to process and deadlines vary from state to state. Once your application is processed, the Department of Education will send you a Student Aid Report (SAR) detailing your eligibility for aid.
ONE letter of recommendation from a high school teacher, counselor or administrator such as a principal. As an alternative, a letter of recommendation from a local business or professional person is acceptable. Please send only ONE letter of recommendation.
